Logitech Lightspeed USB-C mod
Background
Logitech's Lightspeed wireless receivers come with a USB-A plug. When my work MacBook moved to USB-C only ports, the options were a dongle hub, a USB-A-to-C adapter, or just fixing the receiver itself. The adapter technically worked but added an awkward stub of plastic hanging off the side of the laptop.
Logitech don't sell a USB-C variant, so the receiver got the surgery instead.
The mod
The original USB-A plug was removed from the receiver and a USB-C connector wired in its place. USB-C carries USB 2.0 just fine - the Lightspeed receiver only needs VBUS, GND, D+, and D−, plus the two CC pull-down resistors that tell the host it's a device rather than a charger.
The connector was wired dead-bug style - soldered directly to the exposed pads and leads with very short wires, then secured with epoxy to survive daily plug/unplug cycles.
Result
The finished receiver plugs flush into the MacBook's USB-C port with no adapter, no hub, and no extra bulk. The wireless performance is identical - Lightspeed is agnostic to the physical connector.
